Seven 2021 construction industry Oscars for Budimex

Investments, of which Budimex was the general contractor, have won as many as 7 awards in the “Construction of the Year 2021” competition, colloquially called construction industry Oscars. Polski Związek Inżynierów i Techników Budownictwa (PZIiTB; Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians) awarded the best – in terms of engineering – constructions in Poland ended in 2021.

Awards were given to investments implemented by Budimex, such as:

– PKN Orlen Research and Development Centre in Płock
– Sybir Memorial Museum in Białystok
– „ZASPA VVITA” in Gdańsk
– 5th stage of the Wiślany Mokotów estate
– Construction of „OLYMPIC” B stage within the „Mińska 69” housing estate in Warsaw
– Multi-family NIEMEN residential building with garage hall and road and technical infrastructure in Poznań
– Investment at 6 Fredry street in Kraków – 2nd stage (Consortium of companies: Budimex SA, Przedsiębiorstwo Budowlano-Handlowo-Transportowe „Edmund Leś”)

PKN Orlen Research and Development Centre (CBiR), which won the 1st class award, is a structurally and technologically advanced investment comprising eight facilities. The scale of the project is evidenced by the huge amount of materials used to build the facility – 750 tonnes of steel were used to build it – that’s 3 times more than the total weight of the Statue of Liberty. A complex of office and industrial buildings combining research and storage functions includes, among others, a technical building with laboratory, research and testing premises with a mapping and pilot run hall of nearly 2,000 m², as well as sample and raw material storage building. The investment also covers an external storage facility with a fuel blending plant, as well as an office building that is the administrative background for the entire complex, and all necessary technical infrastructure. Construction works performed by Budimex included also the infrastructure accompanying the buildings: internal roads, car parks and manoeuvring areas. The CBiR is located on a 43,000 m2 site.

Sybir Memorial Museum is an exceptional investment, whose mission is to document and commemorate the fate of Polish citizens deported to Siberia, first and foremost during the Second World War, but also before and after it. The scope of works performed by Budimex included conversion of an existing post-military warehouse at ul. Węglowa into an exhibition space and construction of the new part of the facility for technical and administrative needs. To implement the programme’s objectives, warehouse building No. 5 was adapted to house the main exhibition and the newly-built section for additional functions. An exterior exhibition concerning the reconstruction of buildings, wagons, as well as elements of the Polish Army’s weaponry was also included. The new part of the museum facility was designed in such a way, as not to disturb the foundation of the existing warehouse. The built-up area of the building is 3705.00 m2, the usable area is 5700.00 m2 and the cubic area is 28,388.00 m3.

The awards were collected by Budimex SA representatives, namely: Jakub Nagraba – Director of the General Construction Division, Marek Kułak – Contract Director for the Construction of the Sybir Memorial Museum and Artur Adamus – Contract Director for the PKN Orlen Research and Development Centre in Płock.

The title of Construction of the Year is granted to 45 best constructions throughout Poland. A special jury, after technical inspection of the site, evaluates the quality of the work, the organisation of the construction and its execution time, the technical and technological solutions for the execution process, occupational health and safety, the course and form of financing of the investment, the costs of implementing the building, the formal and legal solutions in the investment process, the investor’s participation in the implementation of the building and the impact of the investment on the environment and the economy of the region.
